Chat terms explained
What does 1v1 mean in chat?
1v1 means one versus one. In games it is a duel between two players; in chat and video calls it means one-on-one — a conversation between just two people, with nobody else in it.
1v1 meaning, in one line
1v1 = one versus one. Out of games, it is used to mean one-on-one: two people, and only two. A "1v1 chat" is a private conversation between you and one other person; a "1v1 video call" is the same thing with both cameras on.
Where 1v1 comes from
The term comes from gaming, where a 1v1 is a match between exactly two players — no teammates, nobody to blame. "1v1 me" is a challenge: you against me, settle it. Because it is short and everybody who games knows it, it slid into chat apps, where the "versus" quietly dropped away and it came to mean simply just the two of us.
1v1, 1on1, 1:1 — what each spelling means
You will see the same idea written several ways:
- 1v1
- One versus one. Started in games; in chat it simply means one-on-one.
- 1vs1
- The same thing, with "vs" spelled out.
- 1on1 · 1-on-1 · one on one
- One-on-one — the plain-English version, no contest implied.
- 1:1
- Common at work: a 1:1 is a private meeting between two people, usually a manager and one person.
In a chat or video app, all of these mean the same thing. The only one with a different flavour is 1:1, which at work usually means a scheduled private meeting rather than a chat with someone new.
What does 1v1 mean in text?
If someone texts you "1v1?" or "wanna 1v1", the answer depends on where you know them from. From a game, it is a challenge: play them one against one. From a chat or dating app, it is an invitation to talk one-on-one — leave the group chat or the live room and carry on in private, or move to a call with just the two of you. When it is not clear which, asking "a game or a chat?" is perfectly normal.
In a game, a 1v1 has a winner. In chat there is nothing to win — the point is the opposite of a crowd. A group chat or a live room has an audience and a dozen voices at once; a 1v1 chat has one other person who is talking to you, and only you. That is why people who are tired of busy rooms look for 1v1 specifically.
What is a 1v1 video call?
A 1v1 video call is a live call between two people with both cameras on. Nobody else is in the call and nobody is watching from the side. It is different from:
- a group call, where several people share one screen;
- a live stream, where one person is on camera and many watch;
- random chat, where you are matched with whoever is online and skip until someone fits.
On Omegle Live Girl, every call is a 1v1 video call and every match is a girl. Calls are not recorded, and either of you can end one at any time.
How is a 1v1 video call paid for here?
New accounts get some free call time to try it; how much depends on automated checks against abuse, so there is no fixed number. After that, calls use coins bought in advance and charged by the minute. When you call a girl you picked, the per-minute price is hers — each girl sets her own. When you are matched at random, the per-minute price depends on your account: VIP accounts, accounts that have bought coins and free accounts each have their own rate. A notice appears in the call before free time ends and charging starts, and the reward center hands out free matches or coins every so often. The help center has the rest of the billing details.
